...who steps in to prevent WWIII? Ivanka?
“One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to those allies.” - Mattis

flip that coin upside down... Kelly and Mattis may have been gearing up for war with Russia through Ukraine. With them gone, maybe there won’t be WW3. Troops allegedly getting pulled from Syria and Afghanistan. Hopefully pull out of Baltics/Eastern Europe.
Vlad will be happy. Maybe he will let us take a look at those hypersonic firecrackers so we can make some of our own.

“According to [Woodward’s] book, Trump told the defense secretary, Jim Mattis, that he wanted to have Assad assassinated after the Syrian president launched a chemical attack on civilians in April 2017. “Let’s fucking kill him! Let’s go in. Let’s kill the fucking lot of them,” Trump said, according to Woodward.
Mattis told Trump he would “get right on it” but instead developed a plan for a limited air strike that did not threaten Assad personally.”
Yeah, abruptly pulling out of Syria and Afghanistan will definitely make things better there for everyone...
And I guess we should assume that Russia will “annex” more of the old USSR soon. Putin’s getting exactly what he wants. Appeasing Hitler worked out great. Seems like we’re just kicking the can down the road to a greater future conflict.

Trump is a pompous asshole first and foremost. He would’ve assassinated Assad if cooler heads hadn’t prevailed. Seems like there was another assassination that kicked off something... what was it again?

NATO allies were hardly alone in being left in the dark by Trump. Neither the U.S. Congress nor the Afghan government were briefed on his withdrawal plans in advance. The U.S. also leads a 74-nation Defeat-ISIS coalition, whose members also apparently received no notice of the Syria withdrawal.
Clueless and reckless are not a good combination.

It probably wouldn’t have, but who knows what a person who is willing to make a flippant order like that might think of doing next?
International tensions are only getting higher as commitments to old alliances like NATO seem to fade , and it seems like we’re on the verge of a major global downturn. Wage disparity is a serious problem in many places (riots in France). And there are still many who want to wage “holy war” against the modern world.
We need cool heads in leadership - people who are willing to work together to prevent escalation of tensions. Trump is the proverbial bull in a china shop.

I honestly don’t think WW3 will happen - ever. There are too many countries with nukes.
There is still a need to remind everybody of your strength, through things like the US blowing up chemical weapons plants in Syria.
Mattis was definitely the right guy for the job. His ~2yr tenure is not unprecedented, however. THE LAST THREE people in the same position lasted about the same time.

Uhuh sure, because someone worth about a million dollars when they start their career can turn that into over a billion dollars by being a completely clueless idiot who doesn’t know business. Please. It’s pretty obvious that he is clever, how in the world did he become president? He lost the popular vote. No one expected him to win and yet he did. Apparently more is going on behind the scenes . Does that make him presidential material? No. However, claiming that he isn’t a shrewd manipulator who is clueless about his actions is ignorant.

I hope you’re right. But all it takes is one lunatic to set it all off... One has to hope that all of the military personnel in all of their respective countries have enough empathy and desire for life on Earth to continue that they’d not follow through on the order. There was an almost nuclear war sometime in the early 80's I believe. Russia had a false radar reading or incorrectly inter preted that the US had launched a boat load of ICBM’s. Supposedly, the guy that was suppose to launch the counter attack didn’t believe it and chose to wait instead of instantly launching a counter barrage.
I owe that guy a beer.

Asked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” who he talks with “consistently” about foreign affairs, Mr. Trump responded, “I’m speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain and I’ve said a lot of things,” Politico reported.
The mogul pointed to his 2000 book, “The America We Deserve,” where he made a reference to Osama bin Laden before the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
“I know what I’m doing, and I listen to a lot of people, I talk to a lot of people, and at the appropriate time I’ll tell you who the people are,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday. “But I speak to a lot of people, but my primary consultant is myself, and I have a good instinct for this stuff.”

I don’t think we should panic yet. The trends you describe are very alarming, but far from causing a serious conflict of the magnitude of WW2.
We have to fix those problems, but we still have time, and Trump isn’t even as unstable as even some previous US presidents (I mean, Reagan probably had dementia during Iran Contra and JFK almost turned a dick measuing contest into a nuclear-war) that governed in much more turmolous times.
Loosing Mattis is certainly a problem, but far from being worthy of throwing around the “WW3” term

I don’t honestly think war is imminent. My post was made mostly in jest - see: Ivanka, but I am concerned that he has no more “adults in the room”. I definitely don’t think we should panic, but we need sanity and truth-tellers in leadership, not ones that will pull out of military commitments or shut down the government on a whim.

Look, there are some simple things to remember to make you feel better:
- make sure your home is up wind of any major cities. Ideally, you probably want to be on an island somewhere that no one cares about and that is far from major shipping lanes.
- locate your home on the back side of a hill so it is between you and the nearest likely target. It will help protect you from direct blast effects.
- paint you house white to better reflect the impulse. Dark colors are more likely to cause combustion.
- park your EMP hardened off-roader in a reinforced bunker, preferably underground to ensure it is usable when the zombie hordes emerge from the rubble.
Do all that and everything will be fine.
